Recently I watched a delightful French comedy Bienvenue chez les Ch’ti! known in US as Welcome to the Sticks. This is the best French comedy I’ve seen in years. The plot is very interesting and original, about an Occitan man from Provence who ends up in Picardie. Most of the jokes and funny situations revolve around the misunderstandings caused by his incomprehension of “Ch’ti”, which is essentially a separate Picard language, albeit very close to French. I saw it professionally dubbed into Russian, and the dubbing studio did tremendous work essentially inventing a brand new dialect of Russian with its own features such as “рж” instead of “р”, in fact in Russian the “Ch’ti” (locals) are called “ржеки”. The translated title is “Бобро поржаловать!”. Overall highly recommended in original French or dubbed.
